Roman Blind Making Service

Roman blinds are made of fabric and concertina into soft folds when pulled up using strings. They can sit inside the window recess or on the outside. Blinds in combination with curtains look great and provide extra warmth in winter, see our gallery for some examples.

Most fabrics are suitable for making into roman blinds though some very heavy or stiff fabrics may not be suitable.  We will always advise whether we are supplying our own fabric or using yours.

Blinds which are wider than the width of the fabric will have joins in them. We always put the joins to the outside edges of the blind.

We always line our blinds, unless they are voiles or sheers. Our standard lining is a good quality 100% cotton lining.  This improves their look and protects them from light prolonging their life. Alternative linings are available as described below.

Blackout lining is often used in bedrooms, it is usually white or cream in colour and also adds warmth due to its extra thickness.

We recommend interlining for fine and delicate fabrics such as silk. Traditional interlining involves hand sewing a layer of fleece-like fabric between the main fabric and then hand sewing the lining on top. Alternatively, a bonded lining can be used in which the fleece and the lining are fused together, allowing it to be sewn by machine.

We can supply free samples of all our linings and interlinings.

 Header Rails

We offer a number of different header rails to attach your blind to the wall.  The simplest is a wooden batten with a cleat hook to secure the strings with. Alternatively, a metal track with brackets is easier to fit and eliminates the need for a cleat hook.  The strings are either secured at the top with a locking mechanism or a chain drive similar to those used on roller blinds is used.
